ABOUT US
Our mission is simple. YFCF provides young fathers under the age of 24 years old, with supportive, community-based resources to assist them to actively participate in the lives of their children and families in order to strengthen their communities. In particular, our goal is to reach those young fathers who are ignored, isolated and have no reliable support system.
OUR GOALS
- To IMPROVE the parenting skills of young fathers.
- To IMPROVE the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of young fathers.
- To PREVENT adolescent males from becoming parents until they’re ready.
- To INCREASE educational and vocational opportunities available for young fathers in need.
- To INCREASE community awareness on the importance of fatherhood and the social problems of fatherless families.
OUR PRINCIPLES
Founded in October 2006 in Orlando, Florida by Founder/President Haki Nkrumah, Young Fathers of Central Florida is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization serving young fathers throughout central Florida.
Recognizing and understanding the desperate need for a responsible fatherhood initiative in the state of Florida, Haki Nkrumah began his mission with the organization.
Haki was born in Upstate New York and attended the State University of New York at Buffalo, obtaining a B.A. in Urban Studies/ Psychology. After graduation, he entered the United States Military (Army), serving 3 honorable years. Eighteen months of that time was served abroad in Korea and Japan, receiving various medals and achievements. He completed his M.A. course work in Human Services from Murray State University.
He presently serves as:
- Founder/ President, Young Fathers of Central Florida, Inc.
- Founder/ CEO, Umoja Consulting Group, LLC
- Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator, Ninth Circuit Court
He is also the author of the following books:
